i think what i like about lapidot is because their relationship is held together by a mutual exploration of the world. its so cute, and it, to me, is the most important part of what it means to be friends.
i love their dynamic, obviously, but i think the most important juxtaposition at play isn't chaotic/calm, short/tall, or cool/dork, but instead that lapis is maturing down, and peridot is maturing up. peridot used to care not about herself but only some intangible higher purpose due to her upbringing, but lapis sees the world around her as meaningless and can't get out of her own head because of how much she's been abused in her life. they meet in the middle by messing around w instruments, making art, and playing meaningless games together. and its beautiful seeing how much they care for each other's safety and mental wellbeing.
i think between all the different fanfics, character interpretations, and art i've seen, this dynamic holds true. and i love seeing how many different permutations of this dynamic there are. the beauty of art is how the same thing can be seen in so many ways and it reflects different people's opinions, beliefs, experiences, and tastes. i think aroace lapidot versus nsfw lapidot (to name some extremes) are both valid interpretations because they both share this dynamic (if done right), and can bring out different shades of that dynamic. they can exist at the same time, since life is duplicitous and confusing, and truth is a lie.
the ships i like, as well as the one's i write with OCs are cool because they point out elegant dynamics, that, interestingly, compare two parts of my own self that exist at the same in a contrast. im like lapis or peridot depending on the time. sometimes im cold and cynical, sometimes im chaotic and egotistical. so let's make the two halves of me date.
