I'm not sure if the US government is seemingly covering for Falun Gong at times because of it's ties to the conservative movement or because it's been ostracized in China and they feel like it's hurting them in some way.
Hell, it's wild to me that Falun Gong are tolerated among American conservatives at all, but I'm sure they don't actually advertise they're in it or anything.
Edit: Ah. They hate gays and are against race mixing. I think conservatives are willing to overlook weird cult shit if you just hate the same way they do.
