i like snakes and a free palestine

aside from the aforementioned affection towards snakes, i also hold a great deal of fondness in my heart for hollow knight (i am extremely normal™ about collector), rain world (miros birds are the best creature i will not be accepting criticism on this), command and conquer red alert 2 (kirov reporting), in stars and time (one must imagine sisyphus stuck in a time loop), and about a million other things.
i played through slay the princess and spent the whole game pretty much completely ignoring her in favor of dicking around with the narrator (there is no good ending because the narrator always dies) and the voices (contrarian is the best one), which probably says a lot about me (i am aromantic asexual (this will not stop me from rebugging horny™ shit that i am tangentially interested in)).
fuck it i'm a girl now (still he/they tho)
i also like to draw and make games & shit.

your interior voice of self-criticism doesn't know anything you don't know, which means it can't provide any new information that's more correct than what you already have.

and I want you to remember that, when he* comes through to cut you back down to size and remind you of your real worth, your place in the world: he will take the tone of correcting you for your own improvement, but how can he be right and you wrong if he has no information you don't have? how could he have the advantage over you if he's working from the same information you are?

he doesn't know anything you don't know, he can't teach you anything. he just hates you, he's just taking a high-handed approach to make you feel bad because that's what you're used to from authority figures in your life. you can tell him I told him to piss up a rope, if you want.

* could be a she, but usually I've heard that the voice is a he

That doesn't make them worth listening to! This post is specifically about the superior tone that people's internal critic tends to take, as though including the data point "you suck and I hate you" always makes the trendline more accurate.

you actually can! I do it all the time. what good does it do to enable the voice that adds nothing but self-loathing?

your inner critic cannot convince me that he's right. consider that this post wasn't actually about only you, and he's just part of another pattern I've observed. he's a point on a line like all the others, and he wouldn't be missed if he was gone. not like you would.

I'm trying to imagine a member of such a group who would benefit from being told to listen to their personified self-loathing more, for whom that would be an improvement in any way
