is claim a character is one of the greatest songwriters/poets/artists/etc of all time, or claim some work of art is the most legendary thing to ever be made, found the greatest work of art ever, and then they post that poem or song or speech or painting or whatever and it's
middling at best, often just flat out bad
it's just the worst feeling. it makes the entire story feel fake, as if everyone in it can only aspire to this level of bad taste lol
so what are some examples where you think the author actually DID create art that holds up to it's legendary description? it actually IS as good as the story claims, this play DOES sound compelling enough to drive humanity insane, this painting COULD sell for 200 billion dollars, this poem COULD cause an entire alien race to decide on love instead of war or whatever the story wants?
its not exactly to the brief (the story doesnt claim the art is the most moving or important, but that it is beautiful and important and politically dangerous enough to maybe get the artist disappeared by the government), but the second season of the Within The Wires audio drama is all museum tape descriptions and analyses of fictional paintings in exhibitions for an artist who went missing, Claudia Atieno. Its an audio medium so we only hear about these works from Roimata, but it is very effectively written. The show producers also had one of the paintings commissioned by Jessica Hayworth so it actually exists as a poster

the writing does a really good job of imagining these seemingly innocuous paintings and then subtlely revealing the context of the specific reasons the authoritarian regime the show's world exists within would see them as dangerous.
anyways i will also just latch onto any excuse to yell at people about Within The Wires
