aside from the aforementioned affection towards snakes, i also hold a great deal of fondness in my heart for hollow knight (i am extremely normal™ about collector), rain world (miros birds are the best creature i will not be accepting criticism on this), command and conquer red alert 2 (kirov reporting), in stars and time (one must imagine sisyphus stuck in a time loop), and about a million other things.
i played through slay the princess and spent the whole game pretty much completely ignoring her in favor of dicking around with the narrator (there is no good ending because the narrator always dies) and the voices (contrarian is the best one), which probably says a lot about me (i am aromantic asexual (this will not stop me from rebugging horny™ shit that i am tangentially interested in)).

no. it's a word that's so loaded with bad history that we can start thinking about reclaiming it once fascists stop using it. it's very easy to not use fascist language.
I get that perspective. My perspective is that reclaiming a word isan often a good way to remove toxic connotations from a word, i cite an example if the inverse with the word "woke". The right took this work and somehow made it a dirty word, and i posit we can do the opposite.
look if you wanna insist on using fascist language for no discernible benefit that's on you. I think it's a word that's not worth reclaiming. As for your example if you think the right has corrupted the word "woke" you shouldn't take them seriously at all, plus woke doesn't have a history of being used to dehumanize others.
i'm not sure you can reclaim a word that nobody on your side ever claimed in the first place. "degenerate" is an invention of fascists. i don't think there's anything to reclaim.
Personally, I've always been a little skeptical of reclaiming in a way that isn't, like, community-wide and done in a consistent and empowering way. It's why I don't personally like the f-slur being reclaimed but I'm fine with queer. Degenerate feels more like the former than the latter, but I recognized I'm not representing the whole community here.

I'd argue that even self applied the main issue is that the people who have done so have exclusively been so cringe it'll turn a man into a singularity
