The more I learn about computers the more certain I am that the human brain is a fundamentally different kind of computer no matter how badly we might wish otherwise.
Learned about floating points. What the fuck is this shit. Why do those who most wish they thought like perfect objective computers understand the least that they are flawed like us.
computers are a perfect physical example of one of the main takeaways from my physics undergrad:
mathematics is a language, not reality. we invented it to describe the relations that we saw in nature. it is inherently limited and weird due to the same reasons any language has quirks and oddities: what we perceive, and describe, is limited by our biology.
anything that results from math - including computers - is limited in similar ways and for the same reasons. our products are always going to be imperfect and weird and reflect our own limitations.
which is great and interesting, but also... should give a lot more people caution than it does.
