i was really not prepared for how much darktable would make lightroom feel like a toy. not in a derogatory way necessarily—i think that underneath all the adobe bloat is pretty decent software. but i've tried other non-destructive photo editors before (lightzone, exposure, luminar) and they all seemed pretty similar to lightroom on a high level.
the main difference is that darktable is VERY technical. all the documentation talks about different numbers and variables and algorithms and really gets into the nitty gritty of what each module is doing to your photos. while it has all the same editing functionality as any of these other programs, it is presented quite differently and it does not hold your hand much at all.
anyway, i'm excited to keep playing around with it. :)
