You'd expect that, as someone who is constantly thinking about outer space, I'd be most awed by the sheer breadth of the vacuum. I am awed by it, make no mistake- but as of late I've been more fixated on the pressures of the Ocean. Earth's oceans are a thin skin on top of an equally thin skin of crust, but at the bottom they reach such extreme pressures! Bones cannot exist, creatures living there are perhaps more alien-appearing than any other macroscopic life on Earth... and yet there is life there. Even past a thousand atmospheres of pressure....
