The starship makes contact with the atmosphere:
- A kilometre-long blade slices through clouds.
- Exposed steering vanes and turrets melt away.
- Hull panels denature and fuse.
- Hangar doors burst inward, filling parts of the ship with flame.
- Control thrusters fail as they're buffeted.
The starship struggles to control its descent:
- Gee forces spike inside portions of the craft.
- Hull panels fall away, greatly increasing drag.
- Battle damage makes itself known
- Air and flames infiltrate to the deepest layers of the ship.
- Engines sputter and die.
- Gradually, the ship's speed decreases.
