another resource to avoid using is anna's archive :) it searches all the different forks of libgen (there are at least 3) and a few other sites too iirc!

I believe most people use last.fm for this, you set up "scrobblers", little utilities which pay attention to what media is playing and reports it to the last.fm service, and then you get a bunch of stats and recommendations on the site.
