For various reasons I won't be going too far into, we ended up needing to shelve our Polaris game. We still wanted to play something else for a bit though, so we pivoted to Wanderhome instead! Other than myself playing in one of the original playtests, none of the group has played before, and tonight we put the last touches on our characters so we can start our journey next week!
Without further ado, our cast:
- Chicory of Highstone, a trans stoat girl who was raised in a conservative Redwall-esque fortress/monastery built by a fallen empire in generations past, who was the child of a warlord recovered from the battlefield in the closing days of the war. She's internalized a lot of messy moral lessons she'll need to work through because of the alienation of her childhood despite having a kind adoptive mother. She joined the caravan when they came across her in another town, destitute, and Evangeline bought her a room out of kindness. She's an Outcast, a playbook that Degen is making that sort of combines the Vagabond, the Exile, and the Guardian's charge for an Outcast of Redwall vibe.
- Evangeline of Dragon's Well, a trans bearded vulture and a Peddler from the distant reaches of Haeth, or even a bit beyond. She sells various bug products, flowers and ephemeral things; books and writing; and gossip and secrets, and at some point picked up a bigender teenage catgirlboy named Dandelion who is basically family now. She also has a long history with the rebellion and radical politics; she used to have one of their flowers, but gave it to a lover in the closing days of the war before they were killed or lost or simply left her life- she's never learned which. She also has a large beetle who moves her stuff named Mulberry.
- SUPERB, a superb fairy wren and Ragamuffin of many genders, though some bias for fae/faer pronouns. She hails from a forgotten community and learned lessons on the nature of death and conflict while young, but refuses to bow down to the inadequacy of heroes or the vastness of the world. At some point fae also received an encoded scroll from one of the last heroes of the rebellion, but he can't read the code so. Tough luck. She's also a surprisingly proficient forager and wayfinder for a 12 (really 11) year old, and won't stop stealing Evangeline's honey to her endless frustration. Joined the caravan before Chicory.
- Valerie Adamant, a chubby pangolin and Poet, who is a romantic oft confused for a man because of her early work primarily being ballads and such about idealized visions of past war and conflict. Her current work is taking her outside of this and evolving her politics, as she's traveling to return an ancestral sword to its original owner's grave, and writing an opus on one of the rebellion movements of old and how it intertwines with her own people and the fallen hero. Her family used to be supporters of the rulers of a fallen empire, before it was broken at the hands of another kingdom- possibly the King of the Floating Mountain. She carries a book of poems in the old tongue of her people that she is still learning, and has memorized the diary of her mother. She joined Evangeline first of the PCs, having known her for a while previously as a traveling peddler who'd sell and distribute her books.
Next week, we begin our travels in the land of Haeth!
