I make stuff (like art and games) sometimes and I have thoughts (about media and junk) that I do writing about, but for real i just be posting tbh

Like a week ago on a train, I read Artemis, the novel that the guy who wrote The Martian wrote after The Martian, and I've been rolling it around in my head cause I dislike it so much. That book is the most libertarian ass nonpunk cyberpunk I've ever seen, and it's baffling how something this self unaware got published. Like how are you going to have a hyper capitalist scifi moon society where the labor class is literally segregated and can only afford to eat algae slop that is constantly described as disgusting and have your protagonist be like "I love this moon dystopia as is actually" at the end? How are you gonna have your entire conflict precipitated of the mega rich doing doing elicit corporate warfare to secure a scifi monopoly at the risk of the lives of everyone on the moon, but say this one shady billionaire was a good and cool guy tho? How are you gonna be pro billionaire in general? It sucks and I am now the andy weir disliker.

Yeah, I've heard not good things, which sucks because I genuinely liked The Martain.

I guess there's just not as much room for garbage takes when your hero spends most of the story in isolation.

I was also positive on the martian but I get the feeling a re-read knowing andy weir is self described as "fiscally conservative and socially liberal" is gonna cast some things in a different light. Like the disco thing for one. That's a genre that was actively killing and basically doesn't exist anymore, what do you gain by dunking on it constantly?
