there has been a sequence of events in this game that has been stuck in my head. So for background, the structure of the game involves collecting 8 playable and then taking them to certain jrpg towns on the world map in order to initiate a story sequence about that character doing things in that town that moves that specific character's story forward a bit.

The chapter 3 quest for the cleric character, Temenos, and the chapter 2 for the hunter character, Ochette, take place in the town of Crackridge and I decide to do both their quests in succession. I did Temenos's first and his story is about discovering how almost every citizen of the town is a member of a mysterious cult that committed a genocide years earlier. Ochette's story is about helping out the townsfolk cause a big monster is asleep underground and it's snoring is causing earth tremors and everyone is scared.

The absolute disconnect between these stories was so jarring to me i havent been able to stop thinking about it. I get that given the premise of the game you cant really predict what order players will encounter what content and what information the player will have, but these two stories might as well not even take place in the same reality. Like even if I had played Ochette's first it would be so fucked up to get the reveal those nice townsfolk that Ochette made friends with were complicit in a genocide. It's weird.
