don't run away just yet! hear me out here.
fluorescent light tubes are a staple of deathmatch wrestling. they're relatively safe if wielded correctly, they make a great visual as they release the phosphor inside1, and the best part - they make a loud noise when they break, almost like popping a champagne bottle. low-damage, high-theatricality makes a perfect pro wrestling weapon.
in a standard deathmatch, you may see a lot of these used, but this match between ASUKA2 and Akito has a bit of a twist. the point of this match is that there is only one light tube and whoever breaks it loses. what results is an agile, acrobatic game of cat and mouse where each fighter is trying to bait their opponent into overplaying their hand and making a mistake. it's tense, it's creative, it's funny, and it's one of my favorite matches ever.
they did the concept again with Joey Janela v Akito last year. it's also a good match, but i like this one a little better
