as an avid Alliance Raid and roulette fan, this is a welcome change, but.

I personally doubt that the oft-mentioned phenomenon of endgame characters who have unlocked every raid but strip themselves down to low item level for quick and easy queue of Labyrinth is all that common or prevalent in the roulette queue. Rather, I think the problem is mostly a question of simple mathematics of the Crystal Tower being required content for main scenario completion plus the game's ample trial version. The announced addition of Stormblood into the trial version might even end up aggravating the issue further as lapsed trial accounts activate for new content and a certain new percentage will enter the ADR with only CT as an option.

How would you actually solve it though? I often fire off "put CT into the MSQ roulette" as the easy solution, but how would you handle unlocking the ADR then? clearing one complete set of raids? clearing any three alliance raids? would either or any other option lead to ADR dying as a queue, or a new set of alliance raids becoming so goddamn boring that I honestly consider eating the 30 minute penalty any time they pop up?

any way you slice it, Labyrinth of Ancients delenda est.

I used to think this as well but over the past couple years I've met several people who not only admitted to doing this nearly every time they queued, but acted surprised when confronted with the idea that other people wouldn't do this, if they knew they could. So I can only assume this is common in certain circles. Obviously you can't draw any firm conclusions about the overall popularity of this tactic, but it did make me realize maybe I have no fucking clue what is "common" among the playerbase anymore lol.

So yeah, I agree that CT will probably be the most popular raid even after this change in Alliance Roulette due to it being the lowest level raid, but I am thrilled by the possibility that it might be at least no longer overwhelmingly popular. Especially since they didn't give out any solid motivation for running the other raids this expac (such as putting some kind of new content behind completion of them, or making it a requirement for the relics).

I’m running Aglaia and Euphrosyne fairly regularly for the coins, to bank them for 6.5 when I will presumably be able to use them along with the third alliance raid’s tokens to augment my Credendum gear. So there is a reason to queue regularly, at least on a weekly basis, for the current alliance raids.

This is close to how I feel about it. If it turns out after the change, I'm still running CT 90% of the time, then I am a big fan of moving it to MSQ instead. At least then, there is a chance I'll get to do a raid I enjoy more (read: any other raid) on a day I do Labyrinth. And at least they run a similar length to the updated Castrum and Prae.

My take is that CT should be updated so it is no longer boringly trivial (outside of moves that just kill you) but i imagine that is A Lot Of Work that they would rather do elsewhere or stripped down into light party dungeons so 24 people aren't bored out of their skulls.

That’s not a bad idea, adding the CT raids to MSQ roulette. And I don’t think it would cause the death of the alliance raid roulette. It would just be the same situation as normal raid roulette, which contains only optional content but is far from dead. Also I would propose unlocking the new alliance raid roulette as soon as the player has completed two alliance raids other than CT. I think that puts it on par with most of the other roulettes?
