they made me in a lab & probably regret that || art @androgyne

roughly the amount of trans people in the US is almost the same amount of people who have died from C19. when you think of people and populations as numbers, as "acceptable loss", and you accept ~1.2 million (minimum) deaths; eradicating ~1.6 million trans ppl is easier to square

this is why dehumanizing people down to numbers and percents and weighing their access to humanity based on how many people are actually impacted statistically is such a broken metric for "justice" or whatever

not to undersell the seriousness here, but the high end of trans people in the US is now 30.5m (9.2%) FWIW https://www.nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-news/nearly-1-10-teens-identify-gender-diverse-pittsburgh-study-rcna993

and the pew poll was 5% (16.5m) https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2022/06/07/about-5-of-young-adults-in-the-u-s-say-their-gender-is-different-from-their-sex-assigned-at-birth/

though both estimates are extrapolating from trans youth so it's does include closeted/not-yet-realized people

oh interesting. i hadnt seen that result. generally when i was looking it up & checking before saying this, i got around a ~1.6 million number (and that included both adults and youths 13 & up)

yeah, I thought the 5% number was most current but someone showed me the 9.2% number and blew my mind. There's a lot of us out there, enough to represent every person in NYC 4 times over. But I still share the same worries.

they're both within the last 2 years, so they haven't gained as much traction as the other sources
