enneagram is weird for me because it's the One personality typing framework that was legitimately helpful, in the sense that it led to me gaining actual actionable insights about myself that led to me making actual positive change in my life, but Every Typology Community Sucks Ass and enneagram is no exception on that front

like, spin the wheel! you get:

  • people ragging on A Specific Types and putting other A Specific Types on pedestals
  • weird shady religious shit, esp Christians and New Agers trying to sell you things you don't need
  • people going "I'm [type], therefore I am doomed to be depressed and alone forever--" no, go see a therapist
  • people looking for other people of A Specific Types to date, or asking "I'm [type] and my Love Interest is [other type], are we destined to be together or are we doomed to fail"
  • people trying to guess the types of various persons in ways that are super fuckin insulting to those types, like "oh, they're a [drama queen/a flake/a literal goddamn Nazi], therefore they're [type]! because we all know that [type] tends to be [drama queens/flakes/literal goddamn Nazis]"

Real! like the way people try to make it into new boxes to fit people in and make stereotypes with instead of just a tool to better understand your own feelings and thoughts. People are almost treating it like a mental health diagnosis in some situations, or a special club that they are in when it really should just be a tool to self understanding or just a way to have fun- its not like life defining the way people make it out.

I think with the new age religion it just reminds me of like how people treat zodiac signs- its just slightly less scientific. Making it out as if its a new way to categorise people or be able to completey know who they are without really knowing them. in some way this is almost the same reason I don't like to use a lot of my specific queer labels or share my mental health specifics in public but love to use it in private- I want to use it to learn about myself not make new reasons for people to try and stereotype me-

People always just want to find new categories to shove others in and make themselves out as in the special "in-group" of. Im always an advocate of just using terms and labels for self describing rather than to categorise others. Though Its kinda interesting how humans (and some human body inhabitants) tend to all want that same thing in different ways.

I am convinced that all of this shit is basically driven chiefly by people looking for excuses to be racist, even if it's against their own race.

Astrology instantly makes more sense when you see it this way, and all these crude typology sets inevitably just get used as a replacement for astrology, when they weren't actively invented for the purpose of racism, like MBTI was.
