It's definitely true that things now aren't worse than they were in the past, I just wish it didn't rhyme with the past so much. Basically, this:

...But, to be clear, I think things are better now than they've ever been in a lot of key ways. I know from stories and from my dad and my grandparents how common it was for parents to beat their children before ~1960, it was just considered normal. Now, even though it still happens, it's condemned by everyone and it's (I think? Subjectively?) decreasing.

And even though transphobia is rampant, even some conservatives balk at being full-throatedly homophobic like they used to be. Being gay is normal now.

AND FUCKING MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY

So I think things are getting better by small degrees. It's just... I wish we weren't in the big transphobic backlash period.
