if you boot nixos in rescue mode with single, it boots with the / filesystem rw and busy so you can't fsck /1
what you really want is boot.debug1mounts
and the default install doesn't come with lsof or fuser so you can't even see what's keeping it busy
i love to design computers around the assumption that they are always working
truly wild that they managed to ship a default install where rescue mode doesn't let you do the most fundamental rescue operation, the one that you have to do if you ever ungracefully power cycle a system with an ext4 root filesystem
literally going through the installer again to make sure I didn't miss a clearly marked option to use a btrfs or zfs root or something because lmao
i just checked why this happens and yeah it's because it needs to have /nix i never knew about single im gonna be honest i always fixed stuff from the initrd
