unfortunately I started out not realizing that basically every SATA device, no matter where it is on the bus, will include a SATA cable for each port on it as a free pack-in, and now I think I have more spare SATA cables than I do spare IEC power cables

They did the same with IDE cables back in the day. Still finding those around the house despite nothing using them anymore.
I've still got my crimping tool for putting connectors at custom lengths on those wide ribbon cables for certain versions of SCSI! Let me know if you need one of those made up!
