oh gods, I'm sure. i once worked on a project in school where my classmate wrote a DSP algorithm as a PostgreSQL function to speed up our graph display (it's still around, probably still using his code: Open Energy Dashboard) so i'm well aware of how gnarly even "simple" stuff like this can get
databases are good but they are also, bad
