not particularly blown away by this thing as a product, but I do love that computer-1 was apparently their dry run for designing stuff out of flat-pack laser-cut folded sheet aluminum, because that material looks amazing and seems like an ecologically friendlier way to make and ship domestic-use durable goods than injection-molded plastic
TE has three modes:
really cool, cool looking stuff that is pretty well priced
really cool, cool looking stuff that is so expensive it makes people literally die of anger

they also just announced a field audio recorder that costs $1,500 and looks like a deeply uninspiring dieter rams ripoff, so that third category has gained a second item
don't forget "mixer that looks reasonable in photos but then you see how small it is in person and realize it's impossible to just turn one knob... also it's $1200"
i think that mixer specifically fits into category 2. hard to justify the price for what it is but its i think an undeniably impressive device with some charm to its look/size
but it's so little! idk i think the suite of OP-1 field accessories (the mixer, the recorder, the microphone, etc) that will admittedly set someone back like over 6k is all generally well thought out and useful (except in the specific ways TE intentionally makes things obtuse and unfriendly). i just dont think i could stop myself from disliking someone who would spend that much money on that stuff. even though if i could, i would. maybe.

OH im looking at the site now its the other way around, the folding metal synths have been around for a while, im pretty sure the computer-1 is new tho

either way it's a great choice of materials and it makes me want to design some stuff in folded aluminum as well
