have a channel on your work chat where it is expected that everyone turns off message notifications, and make a habit of dropping things that can be resolved asynchronously in there instead of any of the other channels, as a communal whiteboard
we did this about four or five months ago and it was an immediate improvement, especially since we live in different time zones
relatedly this reminds me of a time i was at a con in the before times with a bunch of pals from all over, and we did the opposite, having all our notifs on in a specific channel and this was fantastic for making sure people didnt miss their ride to food or the bar or whatever
I should really do that because my coworkers just DM me things even when I'm off and I end up doing the work off hours because I hate the notification I have messages and if I read a message I'll probably forget about it by the time I log back in.
it's not a bad idea! we have something similar with this channel that we post our PR links to.
