we all discovered afterward that apparently scientists at the amundsen-scott station watch "the thing" right after the last supply plane of the summer departs, which is a truly incredible choice

at some point in your life after hearing so many people gush about red dwarf you went and watched red dwarf and went "ohhhhhh, okay, so if a lot of people like something, that doesn't mean it's good" and then you just never forgot that. it stuck with you forever and eventually after enough of these you began to assume that because something is popular it was therefore bad. and this is so often correct, but then you have stuff like this that's popular because it is good and it just throws you for a loop

a couple of years back we had a music show on zoom at my old job and they asked me to DJ. everybody else was playing monster mash cheese and old goth stuff.

i loaded the thing up in the top 2/3 of the screen, ran a desaturate filter on it to play it in b&w (it looks amazing like this btw), muted it and played a bunch of spooky techstep dnb over it. one of my favorite sets ever
