Anonymous asked:
How open would you be to someone making a third party mobile app?
in general: very

we don't have a public facing API yet and we'd ask that anyone making a client hold off until there is one. we're going to allow third party clients, but the public API release will likely have a separate terms of use that we haven't written yet. our main priorities are maintaing site performance/integrity, and maintaining user privacy. any terms would exist to protect those.

also we obviously can't really help you if a fruit company gets mad about porn in the app.

yeah, to be clear, we like all of the parts of open source and interoperability where people do development work for us for free1, but being maintainers also comes with extra work for us and we're already spinning enough plates as it is

  1. we do feel a little uneasy about not paying them for doing work for us, though

yep! this is actually something we've got plans to fix in a targeted fashion once we've got the chance; @blep made a userscript that improves the experience a lot and gave us their blessing to steal the idea
