I don't watch baseball but I remember the 2001 world series because my friend ended up taking out power for half the town the night of game seven.
he was taking a curve a bit (probably a lot) too fast, caught a patch of wet leaves and rolled his car into a utility pole. completely totaled his car, totaled the pole, but managed to only break his clavicle.
apparently that particular utility pole was important because a whole bunch of the town lost power and emergency repairs had to be called out in the middle of the night, but by the time it was fixed the game was over.
our physics teacher ended up doing a few impromptu lessons about the physics of car crashes the next week.
