I love that the postal horn emoji is the only emoji in unicode which represents a horn1; no bike horns, no car horns, no air horns. this is an object that has currency in modern society2 because of exactly two things:

  • horse racing(?????????? actually yeah come to think of it I guess I see the through-line there)
  • the book "the crying of lot 49" by thomas pynchon

  1. πŸ₯³ does not count. this should be uncontroversial

  2. europeans: yes I know a lot of european postal services still use the postal horn as a design element in their logo. two issues: a) that's still just another layer of iconicity b) can you get me an immigrant visa
