I'm not gonna hang this on open source in general rather than the contradictions of trying to build a capitalist firm that does open source for a living, but it's comical that in an effort to keep from dumping more of mark shuttleworth's money into a hole in the ground, canonical will now sell you exclusive subscription access to the one thing that proprietary software firms realized they had to give you for free long after they stop providing you all other services
