So one of my hobbies is archiving web sites, and the Czech freehost sweb.cz recently announced that it's going offline by the end of the month. That's tens of thousands of websites from the "golden era" of personal homepages 2000-2010 going down the drain. Luckily I have the know-how to preserve a significant number of them. There's a lot of gems there and I might start a separate page to showcase some, but that's not what this post is about, just a little prelude.
So a lot of these old websites have hit counters, you know the deal.

Well, a lot of these are dead, and many are written in such a way, that in Czech, without the image loading you end up simply with a sentence like "You are a visitor of this web site." Which to me is like, unexpectedly metaphysical and deep? Because like, you read the sentence, take it at face value, and only then realize there was supposed to be a counter there. Well, that's just a vibe I wanted to share.
Aside: During the making of this post, I discovered that if I named the picture hit-counter.jpg, uBlock origin would block loading it! So now it's called hyt-counter.jpg.
