gotta say one of my absolute least favorite things about 3d printing is the thing where you have to step the print head up and down by 10 microns at a time to make sure it's in the ideal Zone where the melted plastic sticks to the print surface but isn't squished into the print surface in an inaccurate way that is bad

the one saving grace of this hobby is that I only print PLA on moral grounds, so I can throw any poorly manufactured plastic goods into the city compost bin and count on decomposers to turn them back into dirt so they serve a useful purpose

there are auto-leveling parts for this but good luck installing them if youre using a low end printer that requires you to solder stuff on, not really in a regular persons comfort zone imo, too much perceived risk of breaking stuff you spent a lot of money on

oh yeah this printer has a bed leveling sensor, even, but that last bit of dialing in your first layers across the bed so you can print things that require close tolerances sucks too

ya! you can't just compost it in a normal compost bin because it doesn't get hot or (iirc) acidic enough, but PLA can be broken down in commercial compost

it's the same bioplastic they use for making those compostable forks and stuff

we've got a BLTouch on our ender 3 and it's great! only problem is that the bed on it is too badly warped to be able to actually print big stuff on it reliably anyway
