as the product of two cultures it was natural to call myself "American", I was born on the mega-continent of America, after all, I just happened to be from the southern part of it. It's just a shorthand, right? Shorthand is convenience, after all, what could possibly be inconvenient about "American"? Did you know that the Royal Spanish Academy recommends you call people from the United States "estadounidenses" (direct translation: United Statesian). I mean...it makes sense.

Los Prisioneros - Latinoamérica Es un Pueblo al Sur de Estados Unidos

Ohhhh, okay. Yeah, now that you point this out, song, I can see it. Latin America in the 20th and 21st centuries does kind of feel like a rural town to the south of the United States. It's never about what Latin Americans need unless those needs are directly in the interest of the United States government. That's why we needed all those reads notes coups...in the 60s...

Residente - This is Not America ft. Ibeyi

(small content warning: there is a clip of Victor Jara's execution in this music video)

América no es solo USA, papá

"America" isn't just the USA.

Ah, so it's not a singular attitude and it doesn't bug just me. I've been hearing this for a long time, you give people the ability to create media, they will create it, usually, with their ideas. That reminds me.

Tiro de Gracia - America

I've been hearing this for a long time. I first heard that last song on a TV channel we used to get from across a border to the south.

What is Latin America? What do I know it to be? Luckily Residente also put that into words.

Calle 13 - Latinoamérica

Honestly? Can't blame me for thinking about America a lot.

oh yeah, I've been making an effort to use the term Usonian over American when I'm not character limited and can briefly explain why. I mean, that's the bit of our country we're really proud of anyway, who cares that we happen to be located in a certain continent, what we really did here is construct a government, and it was hard fought.
