a couple folks have posted today about how long cohost leaves you logged in before logging you out and I wanted to mention a couple things:

  1. there were some operations problems today that resulted in you getting logged out before your cookies expired; I'm sorry for the inconvenience and also want to reassure everyone that there wasn't a security problem or anything, just us goofing up and dropping some login sessions on the floor.
  2. it's intentional that the site logs you out every week or so1, and I personally think having a months-long cookie lifespan is just straight-up Bad philosophically, so we're not likely to increase the lifespan to more than, say, 2 or 3 weeks, even if we do decide to increase it based on feedback.

  1. fun fact: originally your cookie expired every time you closed the browser. it was fucking annoying.

honestly i would really suggest you rethink this policy, especially if your trying to grow the site. forcing users to re-login is a pain and if they aren't 100% bought in there's a decent chance they just bounce and never come back. if it happens again next week then they're even more likely to bounce forever. not everyone uses a password manager, and even with one it's annoying to login so often. while i agree that super-long cookies aren't good, i just don't see the downsides being worth it.

this is one of the few complaints i have, i really like the site otherwise. i just hope ya'll can get enough critical mass to make it work long-term! (also, can you make the header smaller on phones? it takes up the whole screen on my 12 mini)
