Monuments to Guilt is a short, necessary digital art exhibit about how awful park benches have become. the co-optation of modernist sculpture language has made it easier for people to forget how anti-homeless they've become.

while i was aware of these design trends, what shocked me was the bus stop seats. the exhibit calls you out for not realizing how the slanted tilt is terrible for sitting more than a few mins.

important title, wish the motion blur was gone though

one thing i wished the exhibit would've done is explore how disabilities impact the comfort of benches. i'm mostly aware of the homeless aspect, so i can imagine how uncomfortable it is to sit on them and sleep for long hours.

yeah there are so many benches that are ok to sit on for the average person but absolutely wreck me. and what i wouldnt give to be able to lay down somewhere outside of the house. sometimes i just lay on the sidewalk or the grass to rest my bones... sidewalks suck for this though for a lot of reasons

I once ducked into a little temple in Tokyo and sat on the steps to catch my breath because it was the only place around that 1) had somewhere to sit 2) wasn't out in the baking sun and 3) didn't require me to pay for anything. So of course one of the temple priests came out to tell me that I need to gtfo 🙄

I played this game a few months back and made all my friends play it too, because I'm always venting about how it sucks so bad that there are rows and rows of vending machines all over the place here instead of just putting in a public fountain, removing shady areas in favor of adding in more ugly ass concrete, etc etc.
