Cohost is quite different from the platforms I've been at before. My usual strategy for initially finding people to follow is to check the global timeline, but there isn't such a thing here. But don't worry, I'll get used to it. 😎

I definitely do appreciate the lack of a character limit. Before Cohost, I made an account on Bluesky and 300 characters is just suffocating. I'm not even much of a writer at all and this post would already be too long. Crazy.

there are a few "Global" tags, but they're recommended against by staff (as well as, of course, only showing you posts that have the tag applied instead of a true global timeline). searching for and browsing through tags for stuff you're interested in is a good strategy, as is lurking people's profiles and checking out who they're sharing posts from! there's also a very difficult but effective technique where you have a post blow up ("do severals") and check the profiles of everyone who interacts with it from your notifications.

might be hard to get started but hopefully you'll find it fun once you settle in. getting to write extremely long posts is great :>
