in little shop of horrors, the song "don't feed the plants" is a metaphor for not buying into the capitalistic system

audrey ii is a metaphor for greed, yes, but he's also a metaphor for taking advantage of the people around you so you can move up in the world. you feed the plant and get more of what you want. this is central to capitalism, the whole crux of getting richer. if you want to be truly wealthy and successful, you're going to have to underpay and mistreat a lot of people: feeding them to the plant

and seymour wanted a better life, so much so that he was willing to hurt people. and honestly, a lot of people perpetuating these systems are people who think this is how they get a better life. they want to maintain the lifestyle they have, they can't stop feeding the plants

in the end, they plants take over and the world is eaten whole. it's like an apocalypse, and the way capitalism is destroying our ecosystem it's not hard to make connections to how our world could be if we keep indulging them

there's a line in this song: "if we fight it, we've still got a chance". this is a call to action, to me. no matter what, don't stop fighting for a better world. we still have a future, even if it seems bleak. if humanity can come together and refuse to drop another ounce of blood, we can survive

🕊️ THERES NOT A LOT OF POST ON HERE YET ABOUT BFRBS, SO WE WANT TO OPEN UP ABOUT OURS.

BFRBS, OR "BODY FOCUSED REPETITIVE BEHAVIORS" ARE BASICALLY URGES YOU GET TO DO SOMETHING TO YOUR BODY THAT CAUSES DAMAGE. NOT SELF HARM, BECAUSE HARMING YOURSELF IS NOT THE INTENT. IT COULD BE TO SELF SOOTHE, OR BE BECAUSE OF AN UNEXPLAINABLE COMPULSION. FOR US, IT WAS EVEN BOREDOM. THEY INCLUDE THINGS LIKE SKIN PICKING, NAIL BITING, HAIR PULLING, LIP CHEWING, EXCETERA.

OUR SPECIFIC VARIETY INVOLVES HAIR PULLING, SKIN PICKING, LIP/TONGUE BITING, AND NAIL PULLING. WE STRUGGLED WITH THESE A LOT AS A CHILD IN SCHOOL HAVING TO SIT STILL 24/7. WE COMMONLY HAD NO EYELASHES, HAD BALD SPOTS ON OUR HEAD AND EYEBROWS, HAD CONSTANT CANKER SORES, AND MUCH MORE. IT WASNT UNTIL WE GOT TO BE AN ADULT AND HAVE OUR PHONE ANYWHERE WE WANT WHERE WE HAD LESS NEED TO DISTRACT WITH THESE THINGS, MOST OF THEM.

UNFORTUNATELY, EVEN THOUGH WE NO LONGER NEED TO SELF SOOTHE/DISTRACT, THE COMPULSION ASPECT IS STILL THERE. WE CANNOT LEAVE OUR SKIN ALONE IF WE FEEL A BUMP. WE HAVE SCARS FROM SCABS THAT SHOULD HAVE HEALED. OUR TOENAILS ARE OUR WORST AND MOST GRUESOME BFRB, WE WONT GO INTO MUCH DETAIL BUT ITS HARD TO FEEL A NAIL AND LET IT STAY THERE

ANYWAY, WE JUST WANTED TO OPEN UP, PARTIALLY TO VENT AND PARTIALLY TO REACH OUT AND SEE IF ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE NEEDS TO KNOW THEY'RE NOT ALONE. MAYBE YOU EVEN JUST LEARNED WHAT BFRBS ARE, THEY'RE NOT VERY WELL KNOWN. LOVE Y'ALL, GOOD LUCK ON RESISTING THOSE URGES, WE KNOW HOW HARD IT IS

what gets you excited to draw/paint/otherwise create what you do? What do you look at that makes you want to create so bad that you can't ignore it?

I want to know what it is that keeps you motivated; show me all the cool things that make you think "I wanna do that!"

🖤 self indulgence.

self indulgence is our greatest artistic motivator. we find it incredibly hard to draw anything that ISN'T something that'll make us feel good. drawing something we don't care about mentally drains us

we draw ourselves and our ocs because we love seeing us be brought to life. we create poetry to get out our emotions and make us feel better. we write fiction because we are full of passion (horny).

even the things we create for others to see, we create because WE want to see it. anyone else that enjoys it? that's just a bonus! a GREAT bonus! we love when our work touches people, but we won't create it if it's something we're not passionate about

so much art inspires us and we wish we could do it like that, but it doesn't exactly motivate us. genuinely, so few things motivate us: we're disabled, we're in a bad situation, what else can you turn to than your own desires? we need every bit of happiness we can get

and hey, you know what, indulgence is good! more artists need to be indulgent about their work, it's healing. that's easier said than done in a world that wants you to market your work for mass appeal, but we've managed a pretty decent audience (though we don't really care about that, lol)
