the main difference in clowns and jesters i think is that while a clown specializes in making people laugh, a jester's primary goal is to make themselves laugh, and while making others laugh is a nice benefit, if other people find their sense of humor annoying, aggravating, or actively awful, well. no skin off their bones~!
