in reply to @tsiro's post:

Personally, I almost exclusively use the bell. If I used an RSS reader that synced between my devices maybe I'd use that instead, but turning on notifications for the channels I don't want to miss anything from lets me get that on all of my devices while still letting me subscribe to channels I don't need to catch everything from with the normal subscribe button

the subscriptions works in the app too. we don't log in when we use youtube anymore but it was weird to us that like 4 years ago people were talking about being annoyed about missing videos and we were like huh?? you don't, you don't gotta live like that!

in reply to @Willow's post:

gods the thing is this used to work for at least a day or two after you clicked a video, back when the recommendations were more based on the video itself than what you the user were watching + some random noise for freshness

edit: this was intended as a response to the OP, not the rechost with a joke.
i......what? i understand not using it, but not knowing it's there??? Its literally permanently on the bar at the bottom!! Right next to "You"! It even says "Subscriptions" instead of just being some arcane minimalist symbol with no label. Its literally always there except when you are actively watching a non-Short video. So i guess if you immediately open up a video when you open yt and only navigate via the recomendations below each full-length video, then maybe you wouldnt notice its there? Is that whats happening??? im just so confused
