this one is low and wide:)
This is my first time making a terrarium with what could be called a 'hardscape' of sorts. I wanted to have a mostly elevated bed with the usual drainage layers and barriers, with part of the setup exposing the groundwater like a natural lake or something. So i started by using way too fucking much gorilla glue to stick some lava rocks in a little arc to form the retaining wall, and also glued in a broken 60's melamine bowl on a bit of ABS pipe to form an interesting 3-lobed division of the substrate.
I filled the terrestrial side with white stone to a depth of about an inch and a quarter, put a cloth barrier over it, then filled with tropical substrate until it formed a nice natural looking hill slope, from the top of the bowl at the back to the top of the retaining structure at the front.
the watery side got just enough lava rock to cover the bottom, no more.
pt 2 tomorrow
