at my nearest air museum theres a mirage iii and mirage iv right next to each other, and the size difference between the two is really like... stark. next to the mirage iii my head was about where the pilot's arm would be, whereas i could walk under the iv with plenty of room to spare. but otherwise theyre so similar so it feels weird :P
The French Air Force really did go “apply Mirage III to it” as a solution to most of its problems throughout the 70’s/80’s- need a VTOL testbed? Mirage III. Strategic bomber? Stretch a Mirage III. New interceptor? “Can we perhaps make a swing-wing mirage III?”
The French copy no-one, and no-one copies the French….
