we have, historically, burned out or lost interest in a thing before the thing closed. this has been a long-standing personal pattern? first it was the da messaging network, then it was facepunch forums, then melonbrewrp, then meteornetrp, then the group arma effort that we ran with a bunch of idiots from the uk for forever. we followed undertale's tumblr fandom right off the cliff of the porn ban, and then we finally peeled ourselves away from passively existing on twitter when @jinti told us about this really cool website that he was going to transition to because fffuck elon musk. and initially i was upset! i was upset because i fucked up on my activation email and clicked "don't active this email" because i was a dumbass and i nearly never came to this site.
and then i ended up spending all my time on this site, i was actually able to keep up on following this site? WE USED TAGS, WE SAT DOWN AT THE START OF THIS WHOLE THING AND WERE LIKE "WE'RE GOING TO USE TAGS PROPERLY THIS WHOLE TIME" AND WE DID! AND WE WERE LOUDLY PLURAL, AND GOT TO DO COOL THINGS LIKE SHOW OUR LITTLE AVATARS NEXT TO OUR POSTS, AND IT FELT GOOD.
AND ULTIMATELY THIS FEELS STRANGE, IN THIS SWORD INTERVAL - THE SPACE BETWEEN THE SWING AND THE STRIKE - BECAUSE IT'S THE FIRST TIME THE PLACE HAS RUN OUT OF RUNWAY BEFORE WE MOVED ON.
i think that's the catch, isn't it? what everyone else keeps saying. it hurts because it felt like a home. maybe in another time, in a world that ended up without the aggressive policing of sex online, where this site became a smaller, cozier blog/patreon-competitor, we could all stay here, build a home here, and live here, feel ourselves become comfortable and know our neighbors.
