amazing. too bad this is clearly an email interview because i'd kill to see a live human reciting this on the spot.

after some honestly pretty weak beginner Doom tips (i enjoy measuring '90s PC game mags' TTDC -- "time to first Doom coverage") the May 1994 issue of Computer Games Strategy Plus features a very lively interview with id's Jay Wilbur and John Romero. both are in fine form; Romero has his youthful weird kid charismatic hypester persona complete with original slang and Wilbur's got a rambunctuousness i find interesting in part because i just know less about him. sounds like he fit in though.

the person lobbing them softballs is none other than Geoff Keighley. more bits after the cut.

"DO NOT SEND A FAX"

"shab" (verb)

having never read Computer Games Strategy Plus much i find the mag's relaxed approach to copy editing (keeping the all caps, etc.) surprising given its otherwise dry, buttoned-down vibe. in a February article the Journeyman Project reviewer writes "<grin>", lol.

a vintage magazine scan features John Romero listing the planned features of what would become Doom II

ultimately Doom II would ship in October 1994 with 32 maps, seven new standard monsters (and three "specialty" ones in Icon of Sin, SS, Keen) and "some" new graphics. the much (x5) better level design claim is particularly interesting to look back on, hehe.
