i'm torn between wanting to get in on the ground floor and hopefully coming to like it vs. how what i've played / seen so far is leaving me cold and that i almost never buy $60+* games.

current impression is it feels kinda slow and overanimated, with the latter being worsened by the zoomed-in camera. (i couldn't even perceive what kind of strike one char's jump attack was supposed to be.) walk speeds and jump arcs seem weirdly stilted. not diggin the gamefeel.

and this is just me being old but i wish every returning character didn't need to have 2-5 kinda marginal-feeling new specials that muddy up their usual strats. i don't want to do dozen-plus-hit combos with Guile that involve three regular and seven mini sonic booms. the execution is probably easier than ever, but i don't find that kind of extended flashy stuff interesting to pursue (and am worried it will be necessary to compete).

as a simple throw-lover i'm hoping longtime main Zangief or possibly Manon and Lily suit my proclivities. and the hard-hitting Marisa if she's down to earth and not too wacky. not digging what i've played of Chun so far.

50/50 the FOMO gets me come launch on Thursday.

* as a side note it's +$25(!) for the first four DLC chars and +$45 for the first eight + two stages. i'll wait, thank you!

in reply to @wave's post:

After the 3 betas, I'm sold. Drive system is solid and it feels good to be playing complete characters again. I didn't mind selecting Super Arts/Ultras in 3S and SFIV, but V Skills/Trigger in SFV was just the worst. Reminded too much of NRS's BS with variant characters in MK.

I've only played Ryu so far πŸ˜…. Cammy, Manon, Marissa, and JP look interesting and I also really dig Jamie, but I want to get more familiar with SF6 before I tackle him. Really looking forward to seeing what other characters get added. As much as SFV disappointed me, it ended with a pretty healthy cast of characters.

The ISMs and Grooves don't bug me like V Skill/Trigger. You're still playing a character with a complete movelist. It just changes how you cash out on big damage.

(also, the game is only $45 on CDkeys)

i want marisa to punch me in the face. but more seriously i agree with you about the animations, it actually gave me a bit of a headache to watch a few demos. ain't no way i'll be playing that anytime soon

Ill get it eventually since it's probably the one fg, my IRL friends seem to actually be interested in playing, but I'll wait for a sale. Preferably $30-$20

I may not get a season pass/complete edition since i think ive found mains in the base cast and none the the DLC chars feel worth spending the money, but ill wait and see.

As for the game itself it feels pretty good. The flashy stuff is there to make the most off your hits, but its also possibly to get by with solid fundamentals. I like it, but i have poverty games and other stuff to keep me busy till the price gets to a point that i like it.

I'm watching the reviews, and I'm finding it incredibly hard to resist a purchase. I hate paying full price for video games, but with this, I'm sorely tempted. Street Fighter V was a bummer (and stupidly exclusive to the Playstation) but everything about this game looks like it's going to be full-featured from the onset, and the new drive system looks better than V-whatever from SF5.

On the downside, sixty year old Chun-Li is going to take a little getting used to. She was older in Street Fighter 3 as well, but not THIS old!
