last week i watched For A Few Dollars More (1965), the middle chapter of Sergio Leone's man with no name trilogy. it was possibly my first full spaghetti western, not sure, but i'm definitely watching more. and i would have proceeded directly to more Leone if FAFDM's co-star Lee Van Cleef hadn't powerfully captured my attention. who IS this weirdo, i thought. (he was from New Jersey, turns out.)
hence i have redirected to watching Sabata (1969), apparently a typical Italian Van Cleef vehicle of the sort he appeared in for a decade following his mid-career resurgence/breakout in FAFDM. Letterboxd Sabata reviewers describe Van Cleef's visage here as "cheerfully demonic" and his character as "a chaotic good gremlin."
these two scenes occur within like five minutes of each other:
needless to say, very promising.
