like what am i gonna do, play on my desktop LCD? barf
i exaggerate but low-res DOS / Win95 stuff really does look a lot more pleasant and at home on a big old CRT. since i don't have one i might as well just use plain old DOSBox or whatever on my Windows PC + LCD, which feels less alluring.
a funny aspect is that part of the reason i'm attracted to MiSTer for DOS is i kind of want jankier performance than i'd get on my uber-PC. i have legit fondness for how Doom and whatnot used to run imperfectly on a 486, even a Pentium 90. (iirc the MiSTer PC cores are around a 90mHz 486 or thereabouts.) remember when you'd actually see the floppy disk icon in the corner, because the game was visibly loading? or when a more complex scene would cause a drop below 35fps? reminders of just how complex an act this technological marvel of a game was pulling off.
i passed up an opp to get a fantastic e-waste one last week, largely because i don't have spare desk space. may have to work on clearing some.
