just ran through EDF5 for the first time. the storytelling in these games is really fuckin underrated, the (what is essentially) radio drama gets me pumped and hits some choice dramatic peaks. 4.1 is actually stronger in this respect, but 5 has some good material too.

i regret not knowing Japanese because i'd love to understand 2005's EDF2 (my first love) in its original language. i think the series' somewhat goofy English dubbing habits are overall a good choice, but from what i can tell from listening (could be wrong) the Japanese VOs seem more serious. it's not the (also enjoyable) goofy bits that grab me so hard in these games, it's the defiant affirmation that somehow, amid unthinkable despair, human beings can actually unite and rise to an impossible challenge.
