pretty cool :3

as for the game i am alternating between charmed and bored. it's kind of like classic Resident Evil infected Castlevania. the camera's terrible sometimes which complicates jumping and combat. you learn to get by, but this makes the difficult parts more irritating.

i rented this back when it was current and am surprised how little it matches my memory so far. maybe i was playing as the other character and that lead to different locations, but i don't think the two vary that much...

playing in composite (for now), the graphics strike me as uniquely muddy even by N64 standards. when your character is away from the camera they incohere (let's make that a word) into puddles of indistinct color. wonder what it is about this one that gives it that look. seriously, look at my guy here:

i decided to play this over Legacy of Darkness (C64 1.5) as LoD omits some 64 content (including the voice acting) and i tend to like to see how things start. (there's also disagreement over each version's merits / faults.) i don't see myself playing through all four characters in LoD after this, lol.

it is nice to have N64, quirks and all, in the mix again.

yep, there's a were-thing in the first stage, and skeleton's the first boss!

curious why you haven't otherwise vania-ed. curious about Symphony of the Night at all? that one bowled me over back then and shaped my tastes for a while.

I guess I just never took an interest in the series. I didn't grow up with them, and generally I only bother to emulate stuff that I'm nostalgic for. I did try Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, which I'm told is in the same style. Unfortunately I kind of bounced off it.

I'll always prefer Legacy of Darkness over CV64 because of Cornell (but I dig both games). Tearing through Dracula's Castle as a silver haired werewolf fulfilled so many fantasies of mine as a kid/teen. Despite both game's quirks, I have so many fond memories of them. Also, skeletons on motorcycles. Can't go wrong there.

It's a game that kind of blows in a number of ways but over time I've moved into loving the Magical Nitro Run and the anachronistic chainsaw and the weird ideas. The only vampire game where you have to worry about becoming a vampire!
