Does anybody have a good 80s sci-fi anime recommendation? I like something like Dirty Pair or Appleseed.

One suggestion might be Bubblegum Crisis? I'm still working through it, and it's rather short, but it has a lot of high quality sci-fi 80s anime vibes.
Patlabor is a fun watch. It's basically Police Academy, but with mechs.
It's 90s, but I love Armitage III. Chicago cop moves to a martian colony and stumbles into a cyborg conspiracy with his new partner. It's supposedly based off Lovecraft's The Dunwich Horror.
Gunbuster is one of Gainax's first major successes.
I haven't seen Galaxy Express 999, but I've never heard a bad word about it.
Here's a weird one, it's a movie tho. Toward the Terra was really good and they packed a lot into the length of the movie. I enjoyed it a ton, and by the end I think it managed to hit some really high notes.
There was a 2008 T.V. version that apparently did it a lot better in its runtime but I've yet to see it.
Perhaps a bad recommendation given the criteria but any chance I have to get someone to watch Cyber City Oedo 808, I have to take it.
