Haibane Renmei isn’t trans. It’s just about a girl who hatches from an egg into a house with a bunch of traumatized women all taking care of each other in a mutual support system and helping her learn to self-actualize and understand and navigate both the physical changes in her body and her new societal role as she transitions to being an Angel girl. And also her family doesn’t remember her and won’t recognize her anymore and so she can never go home. What’s trans about that

this is like the only new-to-me anime i watched in the last decade that truly moved me. i love it

it's also cryptic and not straightforward and not especially clean-cut. the sadness somehow underlying everything and the MOOD really get me.
