Dashboard did have notable performance and security problems, these are even more lightweight and limited than those were, on much more powerful hardware, so maybe it'll be fine?

users continually want widgets, and developers continually don't want to make and support widgets...

perhaps this is the final time and they'll actually stick around on all OSes, but i don't have high hopes lmao

also shout out to the literal PhD weather scientist i worked with who only knew about the Mac OS X "widget" basic 4 function calculator app. i showed her that "Calculator.app" launched a full scientific calculator and her eyes lit up lmfao.
