its a vuFine+ / vuFine VUF-110, its a very finicky display in terms of positioning (it doesn't have a large eyebox, mounting arms aren't great on thin glasses) that takes 720p and downscales it to 960x540.

it's pretty far away for text unless i can convince an optometrist to give me glasses that let me zoom, but with enough zoom it can easily do 80 columns for terminal output. Right now I'm using it to cheat at games minorly, by bringing a minimap that would otherwise be in my peripheral vision into my main vision

but mostly it's going to be used as a teleprompter and some other more mundane stuff, and for working from bed.

Yeah 960x540 is plenty for 80col, my metric is that I remember they just barely fit 80col on a 512x342 Macintosh, almost double that should be pretty comfy, assuming you can get the optics right. Cool display!

well, so the issue is that you're also reading it off a display that's about 4 inches diagonal a foot away from you, in terms of how you perceive the image through the optics. so 80col just barely fits at a readable font size.

Fair enough. Thatโ€™s like an early smartphone though, not bad at all. And good resolution for that area too.

I canโ€™t wait for AR headsets to be able to make arbitrary virtual computer displays like that. I just want like Picture in Picture while I work on something else lol
